Empty Empathy and Ailing Apologies… lessons from the customer service industry
The use of empathy and apologies in customer service is a powerful technique in dealing with a disgruntled customer. When administered correctly, a customer can be assuaged relatively easily; but I find it is being used too often to simply attempt to manipulate a settlement, usually with little to no actual buy in, from the service provider.
